What is the difference between a Surf camp and CAS trip?
Our main focus is surfing, hence ISSC. However all surf camps include environmental and cultural aspects to enhance the learning experience. Surf camps are aimed at students 11-17 years old.
CAS trips are aimed at IB students and include a balance between “action”, “creativity” and “service” to provide valuable CAS hours as required by the IB course. CAS trips can also be tailored to suit a school’s needs. Surf camps are generally a bit cheaper than CAS trips. CAS trip costs vary, depending on a school’s requirements.
Can surf camps be lengthened or combined with other schools?
Yes. Extra day/night rates are 95 USD per student inclusive of teacher costs. The more students are booked on a trip, the cheaper it becomes, so 2 schools combining will be cheaper overall. Minimum no is 15*, maximum 40.
* we can make exceptions above 12 at slightly higher cost.
What are the sleeping arrangements?
Students share rooms in groups of 2-4, depending on room size.
In some cases students share double beds or extra mattresses are provided to keep costs to a minimum. Boys and girls have separate rooms and are not permitted in each others rooms.
Teachers have their own rooms and partners are welcome at no extra cost.
What is the minimum age? Fitness requirement?
11 years old, however 10 year olds(upper Primary) are accepted if strong swimming ability. All students attending should be able to swim 50m without stopping. We require all medical details and special dietry requirements(eg. nut allergies)
Insurance..Insurance?
All students must have travel and health insurance before coming on a surf camp. Also check necessary vaccinations.
Our surf schools in Bali and the Philippines have public liability insurance and we require an indemnity form to be signed by parents(this will be sent to schools)
Details of our SOP(Standard Operating Procedure), EAP(Emergency Action Plan) and our Public Liability Insurance will also be sent to schools upon request.
What to pack, pocket money etc??
A detailed list will be sent to schools upon booking.
Booking and booking conditions:
Once surf camp dates are established, we require a 10% non-refundable booking deposit within 14 days of date confirmation. The balance is due 21 days before the school’s arrival. If a school cancels within the 21 days of final payment, a 50% refund will be sent to the school.
Safety in Bali and the Philippines:
Both Bali and the Philippines have received bad press in the past and schools are encouraged to consult embassies and security firms.
Bali: The resort island has seen tourist numbers rise to record highs and no major incidents have been reported of late. Our hotel has 24 hours security and students are monitered at all times.
Philippines: All major incidents have taken place in SW Mindanao, which is thousands of miles south of North Luzon, where La Union province is. See our map. Tourists from UK, Europe and Australia have dramatically increased in numbers in our popular surfing area due to its friendly people and fun, safe surfing with new resorts going up too. We also have a fairly large expat community living in La Union. Schools fly into Manila or Clarke and are taken directly from the airport to LU in luxury coach. Our hotel has 24 hour security and students are monitered at all times.
Discipline/Emergency:
We require that 2 teachers join a school on a surf camp/CAS trip.
We have excellent medical facilities a stone’s throw from our surf camps.
In case of a disciplinary issue, the student(s) involved are dealt with by the visiting school’s teachers and at their discretion.
